Mosgiel’s Arthur Burns Preschool is getting behind World Smokefree Day
Arthur Burns Preschool has recently participated in the Little Lungs – Pūkahukahu Iti programme and are going the extra mile promoting the message “Keep your car and home Smokefree” to their families.
To celebrate World Smokefree Day Arthur Burns is hosting a fun event for their children and families. Over a healthy morning tea, Kaitrin, a professional story teller from Dunedin will be visiting and providing children with a wonderful story about clean air, healthy lungs and bodies.
“The Little Lungs programme provided us with great resources, information, and training about promoting Smokefree messages. We love how non-threatening and supportive the approach is - we are always coming from the positive and not the negative, and have received exemplary support from the Little Lungs team.” says Lyn Collins, Head Teacher, Arthur Burns Preschool.
Celebrated globally on Tuesday 31 May, this year’s World Smokefree Day is about encouraging and supporting friends, families and whānau across New Zealand to quit, and creating environments where our children are free from exposure to tobacco.
“Parents, whānau and caregivers can make positive changes to the environment children are growing up in, even if they smoke. Talking to their children about smoking and establishing Smokefree rules like not smoking around children, keeping the house and car Smokefree is a fantastic start and a step in the right direction to protecting their children” says Sophie Carty, Health Promotion Specialist, WellSouth.
