Teacher Registration Funding Is A Positive Step
Today’s announcement that the Government will fund teacher registration fees for three years is very welcome, says the Early Childhood Council.
“This Government support is greatly appreciated by the sector. It’s great to see teachers’ dedication being recognised with tangible action, along with recognition that we need to do more if we’re going to retain and attract ECE teachers of the future,” said ECC CEO Simon Laube.
This initiative addresses the ECC’s concerns about the Teaching Council’s impending registration fee increase.
ECE teachers aren’t paid at the same high rate as primary and secondary teachers, and their registration fees are often paid by the early learning centres themselves, so this initiative offers relief for providers from continuing rising cost pressures.
The teacher shortage remains a significant and ongoing problem for early learning providers.
