Ruahine Kindergarten Association Stands With Schools Upholding Te Tiriti O Waitangi

Ruahine Kindergarten Association proudly acknowledges and supports local schools and education providers who have chosen to continue giving effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi despite the government’s recent decision to remove this requirement from the Education and Training Act.

We commend the courage, leadership, and commitment these schools demonstrate by upholding principles that remain central to equitable, and culturally responsive education in Aotearoa.

For Ruahine Kindergarten Association, honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi is not about compliance, it is about values. Te Tiriti aligns with who we are:

  • He taonga te tamaiti – every tamaiti is a precious treasure; we are inclusive of all tamariki and provide high-quality learning that supports their identity, language, and culture.
  • Aroha Atu Aroha Mai – caring for others, reciprocity, and integrity guide us in our work.
  • Manaaki Tāngata – we respect, trust, and value each other.
  • Whakamanawa – we empower, nurture, and celebrate each other.
  • Whānau Tu – we work together as a family unit and in partnership with our community.

Te Tiriti o Waitangi sits at the heart of our practice and will remain unchanged by legislative shifts. Our commitment ensures that every tamaiti sees their identity, language, and culture valued and affirmed.
