Raukura Old Boys Announce $1 Million Scholarship Initiative

The Raukura Old Boys Association is proud to announce the launch of the Chris Grinter Scholarship Fund, a new initiative to support current students and strengthen the school’s enduring connection with its community.
Managed by Geyser Community Foundation, the fund will provide meaningful opportunities for Raukura students while creating a lasting way for Old Boys to give back.
Raukura has long stood apart as one of the few schools without an active Old Boys network. Inaugural Chair Benji Crossley says the timing is right to change that.
“With the 100th jubilee approaching in 2027, a group of Old Boys recognised the opportunity to reconnect and build something meaningful. Alongside establishing the Association, we wanted to create a way for Old Boys to give back in a way that lasts.”
The fund is named in honour of former principal Chris Grinter, who served the school for more than 30 years.
“It is a real honour to have the fund named after me,” Grinter said. “I care deeply about the future of the school, and this initiative reflects the strength of the Raukura community. It’s inspiring to see Old Boys stepping forward to support the next generation.”
The fund has been seeded by the generosity of an Old Boy who believes in what Rotorua Boys’ High School stands for. Now, the call goes out to the wider Old Boys network.
The goal is bold: $1 million by the Centenary.
Crossley believes it is within reach. “The calibre and diversity of our Old Boys is exceptional. This fund will open doors for Raukura students, helping them access opportunities and experiences that shape who they become.”
Current Head Boy Te Ariki Rogers welcomed the initiative.
“We’re incredibly proud of our kura, and it’s powerful to know those who came before us feel the same way. This support will make a real difference, and it’s exciting to connect with the journeys of former students.”
Every Old Boy who contributes will be permanently acknowledged as part of this legacy. Every gift, large or small, will make an enduring difference.
