Volunteer boost

Volunteering is set to have a boost through a partnership set up by IHC and Volunteering New Zealand.

The partnership has employed a project manager, Karen Roberts, and has funding for office and administration costs for a year. Karen will be working on the expansion of membership of Volunteering New Zealand and developing a national strategy to increase the profile of volunteering.

“We want to build on the good work of the International Year of the Volunteer. Volunteers are vital to both the economy and our wellbeing,” Ms Roberts explains, “but we need to raise their profile and make sure organisations have support to increase volunteer involvement.”

IHC chief executive Jan Dowland is also enthusiastic about the project.

“IHC has thousands of volunteers, we are looking to Karen to help us manage this important resource through the establishment of clear policies and procedures. We’re really pleased to support the work Volunteering New Zealand is doing.”

Karen will be working with Volunteering New Zealand members around the country, helping them to share resources, and to continue to develop New Zealand’s army of volunteers.
