GAMBLING PROBLEM HELPLINE EXTENDS HOURS
The Gambling Problem Helpline is launching an extended service this week onwards - with counseling staff available to assist callers 24 hours a day on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
Manager of the Gambling Problem Helpline Gary Clifford says the number of callers to the Helpline during the night appears to be increasing.
"We're finding an increasing number of people are calling during the night. They often feel more desperate for help and need someone to talk to," he said.
The Gambling Problem Helpline will pilot the extended service hours over the next three to six months, and report to the Problem Gambling Committee on its success.
"During this initial period we'll be testing the level of demand and seeing if we can make a difference to those who need our services," says Mr Clifford.
