Nationwide recall of
Pam’s Chicken Nuggets
Pam’s Products Ltd, the private label marketing arm of Foodstuffs New Zealand, has recalled all Pam’s Chicken Nuggets from its New World, Pak’N Save, Four Square, Write Price and On The Spot stores throughout New Zealand.
Foodstuffs (NZ) Ltd managing director Tony Carter says they have had reports of fragments of processing equipment found in a batch of frozen chicken nuggets manufactured for Pam’s by Tegel Foods in November 2003.
“Three customers have reported finding pieces of plastic in the chicken nuggets. Our paramount concern is our customers’ safety, so we have removed the product from our stores. We would urge people who have Pam’s Chicken Nuggets in their freezers to check the batch numbers, and return or dispose of any which are from batch 13315, with a best before date of August 2004.”
Just under 13,500 packets were distributed from the batch, and sold nationwide. Mr Carter says customers who have bought a packet from the affected batch should not eat the product. They can get a refund by returning the packet to the store where they bought it or by contacting Pam’s customer service centre on 0800 245 114.
Mr Carter says the contamination is from the process line. “Tegel suspects the plastic may have come from a probe on the process line which was broken. The probe also contained two small batteries approximately the size of a coat button which have not been found. As a precaution, we have removed the product from our stores, and are conducting this nationwide recall.”
He says Foodstuffs has been working with Tegel Foods and the Health Department in conducting the recall. “We’ve had no reports of illness, but anyone who’s concerned about their health as a result of eating Pam’s Chicken Nuggets should seek medical advice.”
