Celebrating the Ordinary
Celebrating the Ordinary
IHC’s Annual Appeal this year celebrates an ordinary life, something many of us take for granted.
“People with an intellectual disability want to be included in their communities, to live ordinary lives like you and I. For many this is an extraordinary achievement. We are asking New Zealanders to support and celebrate this during our appeal which runs between 16 and 22 February,” said Ralph Jones, IHC’s Chief Executive.
More than 1.3 million IHC appeal envelopes will be delivered to every household and more than 15,000 IHC volunteer collectors will be out knocking on doors.
“The challenge this year is to raise $1 million dollars. This money is absolutely essential for IHC’s work to help ensure people with intellectual disabilities are supported in their lives, their dreams and their aspirations.”
Ralph Jones said IHC works in almost every community in New Zealand and money donated locally will help local work.
“We are very grateful for the generous and much needed gifts we receive from thousands of people around New Zealand at our appeal time.”
IHC supports 1,500 families with children who have an intellectual disability; provides support and training for 4,000 adults at their workplace; and helps more than 3,000 people with intellectual disabilities to live in IHC houses and flats. IHC also advocates for the rights of more than 11,000 people with an intellectual disability to live satisfying lives in their communities.
IHC works every day to ensure children and adults with intellectual disabilities are given the support they need to live ordinary lives in their community. An ordinary life is the extraordinary gift people can give when they donate to this year’s IHC Annual Appeal.
