Given Imaging Announces Sovereign to Reimburse for Capsule Endoscopy

April 29

First Insurer in New Zealand to Reimburse for M2A Capsule Endoscopy-

Given Imaging announced today that Sovereign Assurance Company Limited (Sovereign), the third largest health insurance company in New Zealand, has extended its current reimbursement policy for diagnostic testing to include coverage for M2A Capsule Endoscopy according to appropriate clinical indications and medical necessity. The procedure will be covered under the terms of Sovereign's policy for similar type procedures.

Sovereign will also provide, where deemed medically necessary and covered under the policy, Capsule Endoscopy as an initial diagnostic test for suspected Crohn's disease, following inconclusive conventional tests such as upper and lower endoscopy.

"Capsule Endoscopy has enabled the medical community to make considerable progress in identifying and monitoring small bowel diseases that previously remained undiagnosed," said Philip Wong, M.D., Gastroenterologist, Hepatologist and Endoscopist, Department of Gastroenterology, Auckland Hospital. "Reimbursement will provide significant benefits to Sovereign customers in New Zealand who suffer from small bowel symptoms and enable them to obtain a more concrete diagnosis and prompt treatment."

"We are pleased that Sovereign has recognized the advantages of Given Imaging's M2A Capsule Endoscopy in diagnosing disorders of the small intestine," stated Gavriel D. Meron, President and CEO of Given Imaging.
