Government helps turn up the heat on Fruit and Vegetables
The newly released implementation plan for the Government's leading health strategy, Healthy Eating-Healthy Action, turns the heat up on the message that 5 + A Day has been working on for the last 10 years - the need for New Zealanders to eat more of the wide range of fruit and vegetables grown in this country.
"The Government's implementation plan, the release last week of the Cancer Society's research results plus growing scientific evidence shows that even a small increase in fruit and vegetable consumption could have a major impact on health outcomes in this country," stated 5+ A Day General Manager, Paula Dudley." We have been pleased that we have been able to play a role in the implementation plan and look forward to working in partnership with Government, health professionals, industry, NGOs and educators to ensure its success."
5 + A Day, a not-for-profit programme, has been actively promoting fruit and vegetable consumption in New Zealand over the last 10 years and will host the 4th International 5 A Day symposium in Christchurch from 9 - 10th August.
"We are delighted that we have been chosen to host such an important international meeting by the WHO and hope that all New Zealanders involved in health promotion will take advantage of this opportunity to hear of best practices in increasing fruit and vegetable consumption and the role that fruit and vegetables have in health and obesity prevention," Ms Dudley said.
