Increased Availability Of Nurofen

Increased Availability Of Nurofen

Boots Healthcare New Zealand is pleased to announce that small packs of Nurofen, the market leading analgesic in pharmacy[1], will soon be available in supermarkets.

Lloyd Price, Sales & Marketing Manager for Boots Healthcare said "We are pleased that customers who prefer to purchase their pain relievers in supermarkets will now have the added choice of Nurofen and they can discover the benefits our pharmacy customers have in making Nurofen their first choice of pain reliever".

The announcement by the Ministry of Health brings the availability of ibuprofen in New Zealand into line with other countries, such as the US & UK where it has been available in supermarkets since 1984 and 1996 respectively, and Australia where the change took place in January this year.

Mr Price says "Nurofen has been used in many countries worldwide by millions of people. Numerous studies have shown that ibuprofen is a well-tolerated and highly effective pain relief treatment and this combination of efficacy and safety may produce the best choice in OTC pain relief for many people."

Nurofen works by targeting the site of pain to bring fast relief from pains such as headache, period pain, dental pain, arthritic, back or muscular pain, and sore throat as well as relieving cold and flu symptoms and fever. It is more effective than aspirin or paracetamol for treating headache pain.2,3

Nurofen tablets and caplets (12s & 24s), Nurofen Liquid Capsules (20s) and Nurofen Gel (50g & 100g), will be available in pharmacies and supermarkets. Larger pack sizes of Nurofen will be available only from your pharmacist.
