Tom Mulligan appointed to the Health Board

The Ngati Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated Runanga Hauora Board Chairman, Tom Mulligan, has been appointed by the Minister of Health to the Hawkes Bay District Health Board. Tom will join Rangi Manuel, a previous Ministerial appointment, in representing Maori on the Board. This appointment is a positive move, as for the first time since December 2002, Maori will have two representative Board Members on the Hawkes Bay District Health Board.
Through these appointments, the appointments nominated by Iwi to the Board’s advisory committees and the Memorandum of Understanding between Ngati Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated and the Hawkes Bay District Health Board, the Runanga Hauora look forward to working with the District Health Board to reduce the health inequalities and improve access to health services for Maori.
Tom Mulligan is of Ngati Porou descent but has been elected as both the Chairman of Te Taiwhenua o Heretaunga and Chairman of the Ngati Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated Runanga Hauora. The Ngati Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated Runanga Hauora Board unanimously endorsed the appointment and will formally present Tom Mulligan to the Hawkes Bay District Health Board on Wednesday the 11th of May.
