DHB linen fiasco unnecessary

“The regional hospital running out of linen (Hawke’s Bay Today, 11 May 2005) shows the folly of the DHB closing its own laundry”, said Don Stuart, Chairman of the Napier Public Health Action Group (Inc).

“This is not the first time that the regional hospital has run out of linen, so there is no excuse for it happening again.

“While the DHB’s facilities manager, Tony McKee, makes light of patients being forced to sleep on bedspreads, this is a shabby way to treat the ill.

“Unfortunately, we now expect this sort of treatment from the region’s ‘centre of excellence’; staff and equipment shortages, protracted waiting lists, bad planning and specious excuses from the DHB’s management.

“Stop going down the path of privatisation and let’s have some real public health services,” said Mr Stuart.
