The Canterbury District Health Board is wise to hesitate before making the abortion pill RU486 (mifepristone) available at the abortion facility at Lyndhurst Hospital, because of the drug’s dangers, says Mrs Josephine Reeves, President of Voice for Life.

“RU486 has been responsible for at least 5 deaths in the United States, and its use is now under investigation by the Food and Drug Administration in the USA. Any drug which causes a woman to abort in the early stages of pregnancy must cause a grave shock to the woman’s system.”

Instead of pushing for wider choices for abortion procedures, more attention should be given to the negative aspects of abortion, says Mrs Reeves. “We should be giving more heed to the proven increased risk of breast cancer following first abortions, and the proven effects of depression and mental illness. We should be worrying about the ageing of our population due to negative birth rate. And finally we might spare a thought for the 18000 babies each year who never see the light of day.”
