Early Morning Flight to Marlborough Sounds
The Wellington based Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to Furneaux Lodge in the Marlborough Sounds around 1230 this morning.
The helicopter was called to the lodge, in Endeavour Inlet, where a 19 year old woman was suffering from a neck injury after a fall.
"Apparently the woman slipped while dancing and fell to the floor quite hard" says Westpac Rescue Helicopter Crewman Dave Greenberg. "She had a lot of pain in her neck and found it hard to move so the Furneaux Lodge staff did a great job by not moving her, making her as comfortable as possible and keeping her warm".
The helicopter, with a Wellington Free Ambulance paramedic on board, arrived at Furneaux around 1:15am and transported the woman back to Wellington Hospital after she was stabilised by the paramedic.
She is currently in the Wellington Hospital Emergency Department being treated and assessed.
