ACC Urges Extra Care over Holidays
ACC Urges Extra Care over Holidays
The Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) today wished New Zealanders a happy holiday but urged them to take extra care on the roads, in the water and at home.
“Traditionally Christmas is a time when we see more injuries on the roads, in the water and even at home. The graph below shows last year's figures, with a surge in ACC claims following the holidays. There are some simple rules we would urge people to follow to keep safe”, says Jennifer Brown, Public Safety Programmes Manager for ACC.
On the roads:
We
want people to take care getting to and from their holiday
- Have a good sleep before your start driving
- Share
the driving
- Plan the trip, stop every two hours so you
can have a break
In the water:
We also want people to
be safe around beaches, rivers and pools.
- swim between
the flags and never swim alone
- check for hidden objects
in rivers
- on a boat wear a life jacket
- always
supervise children near water
At home:
And if you're
just staying home doing some DIY make sure you have the
proper safety gear and take care of your back when lifting.
And wherever you are keep an extra eye out for the
kids.
