Close Up announcement welcomed by deaf
18 January 2007
Statement from Marianne Shumacher, executive manager, National Foundation for the Deaf.
The National Foundation for the Deaf welcomes the announcement that Close Up on TVNZ will be offering live captioning when it goes back to air on Monday next week.
More than one in ten New Zealanders have hearing loss and too often their specific communication requirements are ignored.
We applaud TVNZ for adding Close Up to its repertoire of captioned programmes and would like to see as many programmes as possible made available to deaf and hearing impaired New Zealanders through captioning services.
