Waikato Hospital: Taiwanese woman critically ill
A 20-year-old Taiwanese woman is critically ill with head injuries in Waikato Hospital's intensive care unit after she was crushed by a tree in Hamilton yesterday (Wed).
The student was walking on Ruakura Rd near the roundabout with Silverdale Rd, close to Waikato University, when the tree fell in gusty winds about 4.45pm. Her Hamilton-based host family say they do not want any contact with the media. The woman's parents are en-route to New Zealand and are expected to arrive in Hamilton tomorrow (Friday).
