Cancer Society Calls For Public Support of Injured Laws
The Cancer Society of New Zealand has appealed to the public to throw their weight behind Wanganui Mayor, Michael Laws, following his first performance on TV One’s Dancing with the Stars this Tuesday.
The Society, Michael’s charity of choice for the competition, has applauded Laws for donning his dancing shoes in spite of breaking his big toe in two places, injuring his knee and putting his back out.
Laws came under fire on the opening night from the competition’s harshest Judge, Craig Revel Horwood, who described Michael’s performance as “appalling”. Cancer Society chief executive, Dalton Kelly, feels the criticism of Laws was ‘mean-spirited’, particularly given the amount of pain he was in:
“Michael is a real trooper, and has literally moved a mountain in the name of raising money for our charity. We’re right behind him all the way, and we hope the public will give him a chance to show what he’s made of by giving him their vote!”
Laws was the lowest scoring contestant with 17 points from the Judges, and needs the public vote to remain in the competition. To vote for Michael, phone 0900 89 815, or text the word Michael to 8981.
