Briefing Day for
Prospective Board Members
Waikato District Health
Board members make important decisions that affect the lives
of everyone who lives in the region.
It’s a challenging role and once elected, members face many tough issues.
They work as a team with other passionate people helping to make a real difference to the health of our community.
Elections for seven Waikato DHB members take place in October. For those seriously considering standing, the Waikato DHB will hold a briefing day on July 11 in Hamilton.
Board chairman Michael Ludbrook says potential candidates will get an insight into the duties and responsibilities of board members before they make the final decision on whether to stand for election.
He expects two main benefits from the briefing day.
“Firstly candidates will see that this is a board which welcomes and encourages talent and wants the very best for Waikato communities.
“Secondly it is always preferable for people to know what they are letting themselves in for before they stand for the board. There is no better way to learn than to attend and observe.”
People with an interest in getting involved in the delivery of healthcare services to the Waikato community at a strategic level are those who should consider standing for election.
The programme for the day is as follows:
- 9.30am – Attend
the Board meeting in the Hockin Building on campus at
Waikato Hospital
- 11.00am – A briefing from the Board
secretary
- 11.30am – A briefing from the Deputy Board
chair, Ms Sally Christie
- 12.00pm – Lunch with the
Board and Iwi/ Māori Council
- 12.30pm – Further
briefings (till 1.30pm)
Anyone planning to attend the briefing day should RSVP to Sarah Horn via email: horns[at]waikatodhb.govt.nz.
