Technology Has Kids Brushing To A New Tune

Groundbreaking Technology Has Kids Brushing To A New Tune

A revolutionary new musical toothbrush launched in New Zealand this month may be the answer to our poor record of children’s dental health.

Tooth Tunes transmits songs and music, not through sounds, but vibrations from an inbuilt microchip through the teeth, which are then heard in the inner ear.

Using safe and patented technology, children will hear two minutes (the brushing time recommended by dentists) of Black Eyed Peas, Destiny’s Child, Kelly Clarkson, Queen and KISS while brushing their teeth.

Hasbro marketing manager, Philip McIntosh says the breakthrough technology in Tooth Tunes has the potential to change children’s brushing habits.

‘Research shows children love using Tooth Tunes. At last, here is a fun way to brush teeth.’

Following Oral Healthcare Month which revealed a marked deterioration in children’s teeth around the country, Tooth Tunes is a timely innovation. Just 59 percent of primary and intermediate school pupil’s teeth were free from dental decay, down from 70 percent in 2004. And the average child had 1.67 teeth that were decayed, missing or filled – a 43 percent deterioration.

Catherine Rapana, an Auckland mother has tried Tooth Tunes on her three children aged between four and 12. She says the Tooth Tunes have definitely made them want to brush their teeth.

‘They are now all fighting over the time to brush their teeth. It’s a big excitement now!’

Sales in the United States are extraordinary with more than 2.5 million units sold since its launch in January this year.

DENTISTS ARE SINGING PRAISES!

“I was so impressed when I heard about Tooth Tunes that I wanted to be part of its development,” said Dr. Ed McLaren DDS, UCLA School of Dentistry. “It’s difficult to get kids to brush – they think it’s boring. But with popular music from the artists that kids love, this is the brush that will finally get them brushing for the two minutes that dentists recommend.”

McLaren’s wife, Dr. Sandy McLaren, who has been practicing dentistry for over 20 years with adults and children, feels this could change how people brush.  “As a dentist and a mother of three, I’m excited to see this much needed innovation.  This is clearly the most entertaining product to ever enter the oral care industry.”  “The most important thing we can do for our teeth is to simply brush longer, Tooth Tunes encourages kids to do just that, helping them to establish good brushing habits early in life,” she continued.
