Shotover Jet Locals Day Supports Diabetes Society

Shotover Jet Locals Day Supports The Diabetes Wakatipu Society

Queenstown tourism leader Shotover Jet has raised more than $6,000 for the Diabetes Wakatipu Society through an annual Locals Day held last Saturday (17 Nov).

Shotover Jet supports a different local charity each year with all proceeds raised on the day going to that charity.

In recent years the Locals Day has supported Wakatipu Abuse Prevention Network, Age Concern, The Probus Club of Wakatipu, the Queenstown Volunteer Fire Brigade and Victim Support.

“We’re delighted by the turn out this year and the amount that’s been raised, we really appreciate the support of local people,” said Shotover Jet General Manager Clark Scott.

“While this event is a great opportunity for locals to experience the ‘World’s most exciting Jet Boat ride’, it also supports a fantastic and worthwhile cause.”

Diabetes Wakatipu Society Nurse Educator Jenny Britland said she was very appreciative of Shotover Jet’s amazing contribution of $6,115, especially during national Diabetes Awareness Week.

“We’re extremely grateful as many people living with diabetes in the Wakatipu region will directly benefit from this contribution,” she said.

Five hundred and sixty local residents attended the event and rode the famous 'Big Red' jet boats for only $15. Many locals also took up the offer to buy a discounted ticket to the Shotover Jet Remarkables Christmas Spectacular and ride for just $5.

One hundred and thirty tickets were sold on the day to the Christmas Spectacular which is being staged at the Queenstown Events Centre on Saturday 15th December and is also supporting the Diabetes Wakatipu Society.
