Doctors Need To Know Which Hospitals Are Unsafe
Libertarianz Health Spokesman Richard McGrath says Health and Disabilities Commissioner Ron Paterson needs to notify doctors and other referral agencies which of the country's public hospitals are unacceptably unsafe.
"If GPs knowingly refer patients to a hospital that has been marked as a health hazard, not only will the patient be at risk, but the referring doctor will share medico-legal liability if something goes wrong during treatment."
"Mr Paterson need to issue a list of unsafe hospitals, and arrangements should be made to transfer patient services from those hospitals to others, including private hospitals, where standards of care are adequate."
Dr McGrath suggests GPs contact their medical defence organizations and the Office of the Health and Disabilities Commissioner for further advice.
A Libertarianz government would shut down the Ministry of Health and allow New Zealanders to choose whether they wanted care in the public or private health system, before eventually selling off all public hospitals.
