Kiwis Making A Difference In Myanmar Relief Effort
As relief operations escalate in the wake of Cyclone Nagris which devastated parts of Myanmar on 2 May, three Kiwis are working with the International Red Cross Movement to ensure aid can get into the country.
On the ground in Bangkok, Thailand is New Zealand Red Cross aid worker Malcolm McKinlay who is working with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (the Federation) as an organisational development delegate.
Also based in Bangkok is former New Zealand Red Cross aid worker Alan Bradbury who is assisting with the relief effort as the Acting Head of the South East Asia regional office for the Federation.
Alan is an experienced aid worker having undertaken numerous missions for New Zealand Red Cross throughout Asia and the Pacific from 1992 - 2002.
Christchurch born Jeremy Francis is a former New Zealand Red Cross aid worker and is currently based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia as a regional logistics co-ordinator with the Federation.
In the past 24 hours Jeremy has been working to help load a Red Cross plane full of relief supplies to send into Myanmar. It is hoped this will be the first of many aid planes allowed into the country filled with vital Red Cross supplies.
