Lake Okaro and Lake Rotoehu Health Warning Lifted
MEDIA RELEASE
30 June 2008
Lake Okaro and Lake Rotoehu
Health
Warning Lifted
The health warning issued on 30
November 2007 for Lake Okaro and 24 January 2008 for Lake
Rotoehu has been lifted by the Medical Officer of
Health.
Monitoring of the lakes has confirmed that the algal blooms which affected both lakes have fallen back to safe levels.
Both lakes had persistent algal blooms through the summer and autumn but falling lake water temperatures should mean little risk of recurrence in the coming months.
Routine monitoring will continue and good up-to-date information on recreational water quality is available on the Environment Bay of Plenty website www.envbop.govt.nz/water/water.asp
