Your Body Is Your Temple – Women’s Health Matter
There were about 480,000 female over the age of 20 living in Auckland on the Census night in 2006, compared to 440,000 male over the age of 20. Over 37% of Aucklanders were also born overseas. It is well-known that women from non-Western background have poor knowledge about the importance of preventative medicines and their access rates are very low.
“One way for women to be empowered is to be knowledgeable,” says Bevan Chuang, Settlement Support Coordinator for Auckland City. “Take control of your body; look after your body; taking care of yourself is taking care of others. Women are often the biggest support in the household; without a healthy body, the family will fall apart. Do it now – before it is too late.”
In conjunction with WONS and Auckland City Council, Settlement Support New Zealand – Auckland City has work together to facilitate a Women’s Health Clinic on Wednesday 18th March from 1pm – 2pm, at the Auckland Regional Migrant Services. The purpose of the clinic is to give information to women, especially those from the refugees’ communities, to take control over their health.
