Norma Campbell becomes Member of New Zealand Order of Merit for her contribution to Midwifery
Norma Campbell, Midwifery Advisor for the New Zealand College of Midwives has been awarded membership of the New Zealand Order of Merit for her contribution to women’s health, particularly midwifery. Norma’s commitment to the maternity service was acknowledged in the Queens Birthday Honours list released on Monday.
“It is wonderful to be a part of midwifery in New Zealand today and it is very pleasing that midwifery has been recognised at this level,” says Norma. “A lot has been achieved by many women who refuse to let motherhood and midwifery take a back seat. I am thrilled to have received the recognition not only for myself but for the workforce and the women we care for.”
Norma’s commitment to women’s health over the years includes her position as a midwifery advisor at the College, as well as a practicing midwife for over 25 years, chairperson of New Zealand’s National Breastfeeding Committee and membership of a number of Ministry advisory committees and multidisciplinary groups.
CEO of the New Zealand College of Midwives, Karen Guilliland says, “We are all so proud of Norma, she has worked hard for New Zealand families over the years and continues to do so. She is a pleasure to work alongside and has been an incredible voice of reason in many difficult situations over the years. Norma’s commitment to her work, women’s health, her colleagues and her family make her a truly deserving recipient of this award”.
