Elaine Moffat to Chair Te Omanga Hospice Board of
Trustees
Elaine Moffat has been appointed Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Te Omanga Hospice. Te Omanga provides free specialist palliative care to those living with a terminal illness, and support to their families, in the greater Hutt Valley.
Mrs Moffat, who has been a trustee since 2004, succeeds Dr John McCafferty who will remain on the Board as a Trustee. She has had a significant career in education and has considerable experience in the not-for-profit sector.
Elaine has been New Zealand President and Federation President for 12 countries around the Pacific of Soroptimist International, a worldwide organisation for women that supports service projects that advance human rights and the status of women and girls. She has also been on the Soroptimist International Board and worked in London to develop a strategic plan for the organisation’s future.
Her involvement with Soroptimist International included being a delegate to the Beijing Plus 1 Conference in New York, representing the organisation at the Wellington APEC Womens Leaders Network Meeting and to the U.N. Bangkok, Thailand Anti Domestic Violence Seminar. She was also a member of a Pacific delegation on Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Fiji in 2003 with Hon Phil Goff and Hon Marian Hobbs.
Elaine has recently been honoured as a past student of Queen Margaret College, with her name added to the Old Girls Honour’s board as part of the school’s 90th anniversary.
Te Omanga’s chief executive Biddy Harford said, “Those who have had an involvement with the Hospice will know the contribution John has made in recent years. We are particularly pleased that he will be continuing his association with the hospice as a member of the Board of Trustees.
“We are delighted that Elaine, who has been the Board’s Deputy Chairman, has agreed to become Chairman. We look forward to working with her in her new role,” Mrs Harford said.
