New Standard The Benchmark For Pharmacy Services

Pharmacy Standard The Benchmark For Pharmacy Services

The Pharmacy Guild of New Zealand (the Guild) has welcomed the introduction of the new Pharmacy Standards which were released this month. It is expected that the new Standards will eventually be included in the next Pharmacy Services Agreement.

The Standards are designed to incorporate all aspects of pharmacy practice and will set quality and safety requirements for all community pharmacies to ensure the safety of patients.

The Guild believes the new Standards are a much better reflection of the modern community pharmacy– recognising the core dispensing function and the provision of accessible, professional, frontline health care.

“This is a positive move for the sector,” says Guild CE, Annabel Young. “Community pharmacists are the medicines experts and an essential provider of primary health care. The Standards will ensure that all community pharmacies are operating at the same high standard. We look forward to supporting our members to implementing the new Standards into their every day practices.”

The Guild wants to acknowledge the hard work of all the industry representatives in developing the Standards and especially recognises the vision of Steve Wise who was a key driver in their redevelopment.
