DHBs celebrate nurses’ work on International Nurses Day
District Health Boards around the country pay tribute to the work of nurses on International Nurses Day, celebrated on 12 May, the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale.
Jim Green, spokesperson for the 20 DHBs, says it is an appropriate day for DHBs and their communities take a moment to say ‘Thank you’ to the nurses who throughout the year make such a difference in their lives.
“DHBs are very aware that nurses form a vital link in services for people and in the co-ordination of care,” says Jim Green.
“This is no more strongly shown than in care for people with chronic health conditions, the focus of this year’s celebrations of the contribution of nurses. In this area nurses are leading the way through their ability to draw care components together and their ability to work directly with patients.”
Jim Green notes that nurses, along with clinical colleagues, are bringing the innovations in care needed to cope with this growing aspect of service in health.
“So therefore on this day we recognise and express our gratitude for the job well done by nurses, at all times of the day, throughout the year and in all community settings.”
