Staff Shave And Share The Spirit

Staff Shave And Share The Spirit

New Zealand businesses are participating in Shave for a Cure in support of the Leukaemia & Blood Foundation (LBF). This year, a number of businesses have signed up to participate in the fundraising campaign to support the estimated 10,000 New Zealanders living with blood cancers like leukaemia.

Everyone from staff, managers and CEOs are shaving their heads to demonstrate solidarity with those living with blood cancers and conditions.

With a $50,000 fundraising target, over 50 Telecom staff have joined in the effort. On Monday 17 May at 3pm the staff will take part in an en masse shave-off across their Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch offices over Video Conference.

The Video Conference will add a dynamic aspect to the shave event as it will enable the Telecom staff to easily share their hair shaving moment. The staff will be able to see each other´s shave for a more interactive event across the main offices.

Telecom Group HR Director, Wayne Peat says, "We have around 7500 staff employed at Telecom, representing a true cross-section of New Zealand society. In an organisation of our size, staff are bound to have been touched by a friend or family member with a blood related condition either directly or indirectly and we are excited to show our support."

Shave for a Cure promises a bit of fun and team building and offers businesses the opportunity to have meaningful impact in their communities as they fundraise for those living with blood cancers like leukaemia and lymphoma.

Pru Etcheverry the LBF Executive Director says: "Shaving is a bold but simple way of supporting those living with blood cancers such as leukaemia and lymphoma - many of whom lose their hair as a result of life-saving treatments such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

"We love the support we have received from the New Zealand business community and think the idea of the Video Conference is wonderful. We are simply delighted to have Telecom´s amazing support."

All funds raised from this mass-shave will go to support the 10,000 New Zealanders living with blood cancers and conditions.

About the LBF The Leukaemia & Blood Foundation is the national charity dedicated to supporting patients and their families living with blood cancers and related blood conditions. The LBF does not receive government funding and is therefore totally reliant on money raised through its events such as Shave.

The LBF is seeking 10,000 New Zealanders to shave their heads during `Shave for a Cure´, LBF´s annual fundraising event.

All funds raised through Shave10 will go directly to the LBF´s core services including: patient support, research, information, awareness and advocacy. The LBF provides vital assistance to patients and their families during their most challenging times.
