Wellington Supermarkets Donate $57,000 to Wellington Children's Hospital

All Countdown and Woolworths supermarkets nationwide raised $57,000 to put a smile on Sick Kids faces at Wellington Children’s Hospital.

Manager of Woolworths Johnsonville Mr Karl Wareham said that this year’s Fresh Future Appeal was well supported by supermarket customers.

“Our customers were also very generous by supporting our supermarkets fundraising programme for the Christchurch Earthquake families and for the families of the Pike River mining tragedy” Mr Wareham said.

Bill Day, Chair of Wellington Hospitals & Health Foundation, which is the official charity for Wellington Children’s Hospital, paid tribute to all Progressive Enterprises supermarket staff and customers for their considerable support of Wellington Children’s Hospital and congratulated them for all they have done for Pike River and Christchurch Earthquake families.

“This year’s Fresh Future funds will be used for special medical equipment that the hospital would not otherwise be able to fund.”

Wellington Children’s Hospital is a major tertiary hospital and provides hospital and health facilities for over 27,000 young patients each year.

“In March 2011 Wellington Children’s Hospital will be 99 years old and we have big plans to celebrate the hospitals 100 year centenary in 2012” Mr Day said.
