Fourth decade of AIDS, and we are still learning
“We are still learning about what HIV does to our whānau” says Marama Pala Executive Director for INA (Māori, Indigenous & South Pacific) HIV/AIDS Foundation. The psycho social concerns for whānau, especially with regards to children born with HIV; is unexplored territory for Māori. “More complications in treatment and the socio-economic impact for whānau are becoming evident.” says Marama Pala. “AIDS is still relevant, medication doesn’t always work and it doesn’t always mean ‘everything’ will be ‘all okay’ for people living with HIV & AIDS”
The opening of the new premises for INA (Māori, Indigenous & South Pacific) HIV/AIDS Foundation was held last Friday, in the South Waikato, was history in the making for services to people living with and affected by HIV & AIDS.
INA held their AGM over the weekend in Matamata, and is happy to welcome some new board members and the appointment of the Co-chair’s Peter Thomas and Apihaka Mack. Acknowledging co-leadership and strengthening the response in the South Pacific.
