Statement from the family of Shaun Malthus - soundbite available on line at www.waikatodhb.health.nz
The
family of the 13-year-old boy in a critical condition in
Waikato Hospital’s intensive care unit say they’re
grateful for the support of family, friends and the Hamilton
Boys High School community.
Shaun Malthus is a year 9 student at the school. Before that he attended Hamilton East Primary and Peachgrove Intermediate.
His aunt and family spokesperson Karyn Malthus says her nephew is a very clever and witty boy and has a humorous nature that is mature beyond his years.
He is a talented guitar player who recently appeared in the school concert. He also enjoys soccer, which he started this year.
“Shaun is a fit young man and we know he can draw on those reserves. The family remains positive he will recover from this,” she said.
Ms Malthus said the family wants to thank everyone who helped Shaun from the time of the accident yesterday (Thursday 30 June) through to the staff in intensive care at Waikato Hospital.
“We know he’s in good hands.”
The family are also thinking of the 17-year-old driver, she said.
“The driver’s family has been in touch and we will remain in contact with them and our thoughts are with the young man as he deals with this as well.”
