Kiwis encouraged to love their bones
Osteoporosis New Zealand is celebrating Better Bones Week next month, 17–23 October.
We will be releasing further supporting information to highlight the ways people can love their bones, the role of mothers in building better bones for their family, and the economic impact of osteoporosis in New Zealand.
Osteoporosis, meaning ‘porous bone’ affects nearly one third of all men, and one in every two women over the age of 60 in New Zealand. The disability adjusted life years lost as a result of osteoporosis has found to be more significant than most types of cancer, yet in terms of burden, is listed further down the scale.
Better Bones Week seeks to highlight the three easy ways people can love their bones, and help prevent this disease from affecting them as they get older:
1. Optimise your
calcium intake
2. Give your bones a workout
3.
Get some sun each day – sensibly
Visit www.bones.org.nz for more information.
Better Bones Week is vitally important in raising awareness of osteoporosis and what can be done to prevent it. We thank you in advance for your help to get this message across to the public, equipping New Zealanders with the knowledge to build their bones to last a lifetime.
