Medical technology sector welcomes innovation hub
The Medical Technology Association of New Zealand (MTANZ) welcomes the Health Economic Development Ministers’ joint announcement of their intention to support a national health innovation hub.
“We totally support this initiative. It’s a great opportunity for DHBs, universities and the medical technology industry to work collaboratively to identify and support the development of medical devices in New Zealand,” comments MTANZ chief executive Faye Sumner.
Ms Sumner says the medical technology sector has the potential to significantly contribute to the economic growth of New Zealand.
“MTANZ is encouraged that the Government has recognised this opportunity and is supporting this initiative. Access to clinicians is vital in the development of medical technology. The innovation hub should, therefore, become an important funnel for advancing medical technology.
“MTANZ is looking forward to working closely with the innovation hub to advance the sector and bring innovative medical technology successfully to market.”
