Grey Power thanks Wgtn City Council for housing assistance
Grey Power social services chair, Violet McCowatt wishes to convey Grey Power's thanks to the Wellington City Council for its responsible and urgent reaction following the sad demise of one of its Council tenants whose body lay undiscovered for almost a year.
The Wellington City Council have advised Grey Power that they have revised their policy of annual visiting to now visiting all Council tenants twice a year. They have also developed a Tenant Support Service and are currently recruiting a Tenant Support Co-ordinator to ensure tenants access appropriate support. Further, they advise that their City Communities team is working with community groups to build neighbourly support and have tagged $100,000 in community grants to assist with such projects.
"With their current housing upgrade, their Community Action Programme and these newly instigated strategies we endorse their positive actions. We are hopeful that these new procedures will encourage an atmosphere of neighbourly care and are keen that other councils consider similar action," said Mrs. McCowatt.
