Event aims to present new options to Asian youth

On the 8th of October a special event is being held allowing Asian youth and their families to learn about a variety of careers available to them in the health and social agency sectors.

Bright Future Starts From Here has been organised by the Mental Health Foundation’s Kai Xin Xing Dong programme along with Counties Manuaku DHB, Yan Oi Sei and NZ China International Sport Exchange Association as a way of introducing new career paths that they may have not considered.

“This expo gives the health and social agency sectors an opportunity to talk directly to an audience that traditionally have not considered their work when looking at career paths”, says Judi Clements, Chief Executive of the Mental Health Foundation. “By presenting these different professions it is a way of building an influential and diverse Asian community in New Zealand”

Taking place at the Te Tuhi Centre for the Arts in Pakuranga the expo will be opened Judi Clements and Steven Wong, recipient of a the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to the Chinese community.

The day will also feature a number of stalls providing information on the various social and health services available to the Asian community including IRD, ACC and language line as well as workshops for family members to better understand these types of services that are available to the Asian community.
