Support for people with diabetes over
the festive season
Need help with your Christmas planning if you have diabetes? Looking for the right present for your friends or family member with diabetes? If so, the Diabetes NZ Wellington Centre can assist.
“Christmas is a very busy time for people with diabetes and their families, it can bring added challenges. We offer advice and support service for our members in the Wellington area,” said Field Officer Peggy Bhana-Thomson.
“Our newest service is assisting people with supermarket shopping and planning meals. We arrange tours to help people more fully understand the nutritional labels on food items. We aim to give people more confidence about buying the right foods when doing their regular grocery shopping,” says Peggy.
“We have a range of products suitable for Christmas presents for people with diabetes. We are also planning cooking classes and education nights next year using health professionals.”
“Diabetes is very common in our society and is a silent killer.” says Peggy. “However, with the right support and information, people with diabetes can live normal and fulfilling lives. If you need help or information over the festive season, give us a call.”
Diabetes affects 270,000 New Zealanders and in the
Wellington region there are around 15,000 people with
diabetes.
