New CIO
leads global innovation of ‘real world’ healthcare
technologies
Dr Edwin Ng, a leader in healthcare information technology, has joined Atlantis Healthcare, specialists in medicines adherence, as its Chief Information Officer. After more than ten years as Chief Technology Officer at Australasian company Healthlink, Dr Ng is now taking this strategic role to spearhead Atlantis’ on-going development of scalable and “real world” health technologies.
Atlantis Healthcare has more than 15 years of experience working with a global portfolio of leading pharmaceutical businesses to design and implement evidence-based programmes that increase patient adherence to medication.
“Information technology is a key component of Atlantis Healthcare’s adherence solutions, which have supported over 750,000 patients around the world”, explains Dr Ng.
After spending much of his career
delivering technology solutions to healthcare providers, Dr
Ng decided to move to an organisation that had a stronger
patient focus. “Having the ability to directly influence
better patient health outcomes was what drew me to Atlantis
- I am passionate about utilising information technology to
deliver the best possible patient care.”
Central to Dr
Ng's strategy is to collaborate and partner with other
innovative healthcare technology providers. “We are
constantly seeking out the most effective modes of
communication to truly connect with patients and help them
develop a better understanding of their health.”
As a current Board member of HL7NZ, the New Zealand affiliate to Health Level Seven® International, the global authority on standards for interoperability of health information technology, Dr Ng has a strong focus on assessing the validity of new technology and its application in real world settings.
According to Dr Ng, Atlantis Healthcare’s patient support programmes have been proven to increase adherence across a range of chronic conditions. “We use the latest technology, combined with health psychology techniques to profile patient perceptions about their treatment and then deliver personalised communications that help individuals better understand the role of their treatment.”
OnTrackTM CRM, Atlantis Healthcare’s award-winning patient relationship management system is a good example of technological innovation. The system currently automates personalised interventions to patients in nine different countries, utilising a sophisticated set of algorithms.
“In today’s ‘connected global population’ there are growing numbers of online channels that can be utilised to improve adherence. We need to develop innovative solutions that leverage the latest technologies in order to meet the challenges of working in such an environment.”
With expansion plans well under
way in new markets, such as the US and Middle East, Atlantis
Healthcare's adherence products cater to diverse patient
groups across a variety of cultures and therapeutic
areas.
