Theatre Postponements
The West Coast DHB regrets that some patients have had their surgery postponed this week due to unexpected anaesthetist illness.
Unfortunately some of these patients had already been rescheduled because of previous illness of anaesthetic staff a few weeks ago.
We do appreciate some of these patients will be feeling frustrated at the delays to their surgery and can assure them that their procedures will be performed as soon as possible.
We apologise for the disruption these unexpected postponements has caused.
The DHB has just signed up three permanent anaesthetists to work on the West Coast. The first of these clinicians is likely to start working by the end of April, reducing the reliance on locum specialists.
