A Strong Impact Factor for a Growing Medical Journal

A Strong Impact Factor for a Growing Medical Journal

Thomson Reuters has recently released the 2011 Journal Citation Reports® (JCR), showing new impact factors for several of Dove Medical Press journals, including Clinical Interventions in Aging. The JCR provides information about highly-cited, peer reviewed publications and is the source of the new Journal Impact Factors.

The 2011 impact factor for Clinical Interventions in Aging (CIA) has been added at 2.083. “We appreciate the acceptance of CIA by age-management practitioners and are confident that its readership will continue to grow in parallel with the value and number of its relevant reports,” says Dr. Richard F. Walker, CIA founding Editor-in-Chief.

Dr. Walker says "I am personally and professionally pleased with its success in bringing current developments for managing issues of aging to committed health care professionals. After only six years in existence the value of CIA as an information source for those practicing innovative age-management medicine is reflected in its impact factor that has been trending upward since inception of the Journal.”

The publication was founded in 2006 in recognition of the fact than an increasing number of health care professionals were devoting their practice to the management of issues related to the aging process. According to Dr. Walker, “While there are many journals devoted to publishing basic research data on putative causes and consequences of senescence, none existed specifically for the purpose of serving clinicians and their practices. Previously, new methods for opposing the maladaptive changes of aging so as to sustain health and vitality while delaying or possibly preventing the onset of age-related, intrinsic diseases were scattered in specialty journals, mixed among basic research reports. In contrast, CIA is dedicated to clinical professionals providing them with a central source of new findings and therapies for application in their efforts to bring better quality of life, health and vitality to the public at large.”

As Thomson Reuters quotes, "Journal Selection takes place throughout the course of a year and its goal is to identify, evaluate and select the most important and influential International and Regional journals for coverage in Thomson Reuters Web of Knowledge platform. The following year, these data are then analyzed and published in the JCR release, providing a view of how these journals are integrated, through citation, with the scholarly, multidisciplinary literature."

Dove Medical Press is a privately held publisher of 100+ open access peer-reviewed journals across the broad spectrum of science, technology and especially medicine.
