Pharmacy Guild supports Society’s recertification programme

MEDIA RELEASE

1 March 2013

Pharmacy Guild supports Society’s recertification programme

Following member feedback and discussions with the Pharmaceutical Society (the Society), the Pharmacy Guild of New Zealand (the Guild) will not progress with the development of its own Continuing Professional Development (CPD) recertification programme at this time and instead, is endorsing the programme, ENHANCE 2.0, being developed by the Society.

The Guild is committed to ensuring that a quality CPD recertification programme is available to its members, recognising that the platform for such a programme must meet the needs of today’s pharmacists.
Guild Board members have reviewed the programme offered by the Society and believe that it addresses the historical concerns members had with the programme under the previous framework.

“This decision follows feedback from members and the Board’s consideration of the detailed business case for the development of the Guild’s own CPD recertification programme. The Board believes that the development of a duplicate programme is not the best use of Guild member funds given the quality of the programme being developed by the Society”, said Guild President, Karen Crisp.

“We believe that member funds would be better spent in support of our PSA work and other advocacy activities,” she added.

Ms Crisp explained that the Guild and the Society are committed to working together to ensure a strong pharmacy profession. This relationship also acknowledges our joint membership and our desire to see the local branches of both organisations working closely together on continuing education.

Society Chief Executive Officer, Richard Townley, agrees and says the Society continues to be open to getting input and feedback from the Guild. “We see this is an indicator from both organisations of increased strategic alignment into the future.”

The Guild will continue to represent members’ interests when the CPD recertification framework is reviewed and ensure it is updated according to the needs of community pharmacy.
