Innovative digital med-ed solution launches for GPs nationwide

GPLink, an online channel featuring innovative medical information, presented by local clinical experts, launched earlier this month for GPs in New Zealand.

“To provide the best medical advice for patients, it is essential GPs have the most current and accurate information at their finger-tips,” says Gretchen Hamilton from Atlantis Healthcare, the healthcare solutions agency that launched GPLink.

“Through a secure log-on, healthcare professionals can stream concise video presentations from local clinical experts – making it simple to keep abreast of the latest developments in their field,” explains Gretchen.

The first presentation to launch on GPLink looked at cardiovascular health, with Dr Gerry Devlin, the cardiology clinical unit leader from Waikato presenting the latest medical developments in managing stroke risk in atrial fibrillation.

When asked about the value of GPLink for NZ Healthcare professionals, Dr Devlin explained, “This website offers another mechanism for secondary care to communicate important medical management information or guideline updates with primary care which will ultimately improve patient outcomes.”

Initial feedback shows that there is an appetite for such a digital med-ed service amongst GPs. In a survey conducted with 500+ GP’s it was clear the majority of physicians are interested in furthering their clinical knowledge via the internet, and want 24/7 access to such digital resources presented by local respected experts.

A member of GPLink, Dr Nadarajan Shanmugalingham from Glengarry Medical in Invercargill was positive about the new service. "This is a very easy way to view, interpret and remember information as opposed to just reading PowerPoint slides,” he said.

“The second presentation on GPLink looks at starting basal insulin for Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients and is available for viewing from the 1st May,” says Gretchen. “New presentations will be released regularly in an effort to support NZ GPs in providing the most current medical and lifestyle advice for their patients.”
