Health insurer adds two new directors

National health insurer UniMed has appointed two new directors to its board - Jane Huria, of Christchurch and Tim McGuinness from Wellington.

Huria has lengthy experience as a director in the public and private sectors, commercial and not for profit. She is deputy chair of the Electoral Commission and other current appointments include chair of Christchurch Earthquake Appeal Trust’s advisory board, board member of the Red Cross Commission Canterbury Earthquake 2011 Trust, Fortuna Group Limited, WinterGames NZ and the Court Theatre.

McGuinness has been closely involved with several substantial New Zealand investment and superannuation funds in a governance role. He currently chairs the boards of trustees of the Dairy Industry Superannuation Scheme and Fonterra Superannuation Scheme as well as the Nominating committee for the Guardians of New Zealand Superannuation. He is also a trustee of the NZ Fire Service Superannuation Scheme and the NZ Police Superannuation Scheme and director of Whai Rawa Fund Ltd. McGuinness served for a decade on the Government Superannuation Fund Authority.

UniMed chief executive Dermot Martin said the society was delighted to have the benefit of added governance expertise from Huria and McGuinness.
