Strategies for success in your twenties
Twenty to thirty-year-olds are the most depressed group in New Zealand according to the AUT Wellness survey released earlier this year. In an official response, Rotaract New Zealand is launching the ‘Quarter Life Movement’, an initiative inspired by the rise of the quarter-life crisis, on October 16th at the Deck Bar in SkyCity.
As the AUT Wellness survey also revealed that ‘giving’ is directly linked to enhanced individual well-being, the convention will launch a series of ‘Quarter-Life Movement’ events, which will encourage those between the ages of 18-30 to give back to the community and develop themselves in the process.
Megan Gallagher, Rotaract’s Auckland and Pacific district representative said, “The quarter-life crisis is spreading amongst 20-30 year olds. We spend a lot of time on social media worrying that we are failing. The launch will give guidelines on how to break free of the quarter-life crisis.”
The Quarter-Life Movement conference will be themed ‘Strategies for Success in your Twenties’ with motivational speaker William Pike and author Allison Mooney sharing their insights into how twenty-somethings can reach their full potential. Pike was 23 when he lost his lower leg on a climbing expedition on Mount Ruapehu. Since the injury Pike has set up the William Pike Challenge Award, an outdoor education programme for young New Zealanders. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the cause.
Allison Mooney is an award-winning speaker and the author of ‘Pushing the Right Buttons’. Through her speaking engagements, Mooney provides strategies for working with and managing different personalities in both business and personal relationships.
Rotaract is a secular, non-profit organisation for 18-30 year olds. It is an international organisation focused on community service projects, professional development, socialising and leadership training. To join Rotaract visit www.rotaract.org.nz
