Ride-A-Thon: The Breast Ride and Breast Success Ever!
By Cityfitness, 15 November 2013
Smiling and spinning, over 1,100 people gathered in pink t-shirts on Saturday 9 Nov across the country to support and raise money for the Breast Cancer Research Trust (BCRT) thanks to the fourth annual Ride-A-Thon hosted by Cityfitness. Participants were in high spirits wearing more than a pink t-shirt - some fashioned wigs, face paint, and even costumes spreading exciting energy in each city. “I asked for a carnival atmosphere to reign and thanks to an awesome group of people who arrived at 10am we had that atmosphere from the moment set up began,” said Avril Ringrose, National BTS & Group Fitness Manager of Cityfitness.
In Auckland, Hamilton, Napier, New Plymouth, Palmerston North, Wellington, Nelson, and Christchurch, this inspirational event lasted for four hours, with four one-hour riding segments each costing $10 per cycle. A little went a long way and Cityfitness managed to raise over ¬¬¬¬$16,000, and the best part is, donations are still flowing their way with 100% of the proceeds going to BCRT.
“Group Fitness is an amazing platform for bringing people together and sharing their passion for health, fitness, and happiness, and to do something positive for the health of those affected by breast cancer, making this event a privilege to be a part of,” said Cityfitness Group Ride Instructor & Group Fitness Manager, Tania Martin.
“We are delighted with the result this year with only 8 locations participating, they still managed to raise over $16,000 between them! The Breast Cancer Research Trust is proud to be working with Cityfitness each year to help us achieve our goal to find a cure for breast cancer,” Phillipa Green, General Manager of BCRT commented.
Avril Ringrose quoted, “We worked for a cause, we made a difference, and by crikey we looked sharp!”
