Lorraine Lea FUN-raises for Kids with Cancer
Australian family-owned homewares company Lorraine Lea has raised over $5,000 to support the work of Camp Quality New Zealand in 2014.
Lorraine Lea Independent Consultants will present a cheque of $5,122 to Camp Quality at the Auckland/Northland regional summer camp at Wesley College, Paerata on Thursday 15 January.
Camp Quality is dedicated to bringing fun, hope and happiness to children aged 5-16 living with cancer and the funds will support a range of free activities and programmes the not-for-profit voluntary organisation will provide during 2015.
Auckland Lorraine Lea Independent Consultant Christine Muir, said her team raised funds by donating the profits from their June home-styling parties and assisting with Camp Quality events throughout the year.
“Most of us know someone who has battled cancer, so this is a cause close to our hearts. It’s a rewarding feeling when we can put a smile on these little faces when they come to a camp,” said Christine.
With the help of Lorraine Lea Independent Consultants, more than 70 Auckland/Northland youngsters at the week-long summer camp will cut, glue and embellish over 90 Lorraine Lea pillowcases in a fun and interactive afternoon of arts and crafts after the presentation.
Camp Quality New Zealand chairman, Gary Troup, said the support and fundraising from Lorraine Lea helps Camp Quality provide a range of activities throughout the year to assist young children with cancer and their families.
“Our regional summer camps are the heart and soul of Camp Quality where we deliver a week of quality recreational programmes and fun experiences to almost 300 children, backed up by 750 volunteers in a safe, stress-free and caring environment. The support we get from Lorraine Lea and others is greatly appreciated,” Mr Troup said.
Since the partnership began two years ago, Lorraine Lea has raised more than $14,800 for Camp Quality New Zealand through the Party for Kids with Cancer philanthropic fund established in 2000, after Lorraine Lea’s co-founder Peter Ryan lost his battle with cancer. Since its inception, over $1.1 million has been donated to various cancer causes.
