When pain is your daily companion!
When pain is your daily companion!
For hundreds of people, mostly women, in New Zealand every day is a battle with pain. Arthritis New Zealand Chief Executive Sandra Kirby today asked New Zealanders to spare a thought for people who are living with fibromyalgia, ahead of International Fibromyalgia Day on 12 May.
“Around one in fifty people will develop this often confusing condition at some time in their lives, which most commonly develops between the ages of 25 and 55. Women are more likely to have fibromyalgia than men.”
“Fibromyalgia often causes widespread pain leading people to describe the symptoms as it ‘hurts all over’. It can be a confusing condition for both patients and healthcare professionals, and there are many myths and misunderstandings about its cause and treatment.”
“Arthritis New Zealand regularly holds seminars, information sessions, and other events, to inform people about how to live better with fibromyalgia, and other forms of arthritis. For further information, phone us toll free on 8000 663 463, or visit our website: www.arthritis.org.nz,” Ms Kirby concluded.
Arthritis New Zealand is the national organisation focussed on raising awareness of the more than 140 different forms of arthritis, advocating for those with the condition, and providing advice and support.
