Beards Beat Bowel Cancer through the month of December
Auckland, 23 November 2015: Decembeard™, Bowel Cancer New Zealand’s hairiest fundraising campaign, is back for 2015. Decembeard™ aims to encourage men throughout New Zealand to raise the much needed funds for Bowel Cancer New Zealand (BCNZ), while growing a beard through December. Not limiting it just to beard growers, this year BCNZ are calling on the already bearded to do something creative with their face fur and want the ladies to encourage and support them.
The facts about bowel cancer are sobering. Every year more than 3,000 New Zealanders are diagnosed with bowel cancer and over 100 lose their lives to the disease each month, making it the most common cancer affecting both men and women in New Zealand - almost as many as breast and prostate combined.
BCNZ is determined to change the statistics and believes that Decembeard™, a fundraiser with a lighter fun attitude, will make it easier to talk about a subject that many find awkward.
Bowel Cancer New Zealand Chairman Mary Bradley says, “We wanted to have a little fun with Decembeard this year by not just limiting it to growing a beard. We want to see what the bearded can do, maybe dye it pink, decorate it or even shave it all off. There are no limits.”
“By increasing awareness of symptoms, raising funds with Decembeard and advocating for a screening programme, we feel we have a shot at raising the survival rate of the country’s most common cancer,” adds Bradley.
To tame that facial hair through Decembeard and to support BCNZ boutique skincare range, Native Rituals, will be offering a 10 per cent discount on the full range of products and 20 per cent off each sale will go to BCNZ. Customers should use the code dcbeard15 when checking out.
Decembeard officially kicks off on Tuesday 1 December until Thursday 31 December. To register to participate in Decembeard or to donate, visit:https://www.everydayhero.co.nz/event/decembeard2015NZ
